Research Assistant for a project on equitable net-zero transitions in India

We are looking to recruit a casual research assistant to collaborate in a project on equitable net zero transitions in developing countries. The project explores plans and pathways for achieving net-zero emissions in Kenya, India and Mexico. The work focuses on corporations operating in two economic sectors: food and beverage (including agricultural suppliers); and construction and real estate. Additionally, the project explores current developments in carbon markets in the three countries of interest.

We are looking for a candidate with experience of postgraduate work to document current trends in India. The engagement will involve:

  • Desk analysis of climate policy and net-zero company targets in the relevant sectors.
    • focus on the construction sector companies and raw materials including steel, cement, and other inputs to the real estate sector
    • focus on food and beverage companies
    • role and input of the financial sector in enabling net zero transitions in construction and food and beverage sectors
  • Map the landscape of policies and private sector actors in these sectors
  • Identification of stakeholders and policy relevant actors for in-depth interviewing on how the private sector understands and approaches their net zero transitions
  • Assist project co-investigators in setting up interviews and being part of the interview processes, including support in organising and facilitating a stakeholder workshop
  • Support in analysing findings and writing up the results in an academic and policy format

We plan to employ a casual research assistant for an initial period of 12 weeks, with further work possible, at a later date, depending on project progress. The number of hours/week will be decided in light of the candidate’s experience and availability. Location can be flexible with a preference for Oxford and/or in India.
